The dress was pretty according to the standards of the day. This was also a time when BIG hair and mullets were popular. While I didn’t go to the prom that year, my sister did. We have similar tastes. We like trendy but it must be something that has a timeless look, a classic style. I can tell you that the dress my sister wore to prom was not the gown that was causing conflict between friends. It wasn’t even from the same designer. In fact the designer she (and myself) wore to prom is no longer a gown designer at all. We didn’t pick the gowns to actually wear to prom just because he was a hot designer and VERY expensive. (Her gown from this designer in 1991 was $520. $520 in 1991 is worth $919.23 in 2016). The gowns were selected because they were gorgeous. We wore them well. The gown didn’t wear us.
Laura Ashley dresses were another popular look that was worn for everyday with white tennis shoes or for formal occasions like weddings or proms. “Let’s wear something that makes us look fatter.” seemed to be the idea behind that. See more on Laura Ashley floral-print sack dress.
Only you can decide if you want someone to know the name on your gown the second they see it or if you prefer that they look at you in the gown and just think “Wow! She looks fabulous in that gown.”
